Check out our interview with Roland Y. Fajardo, a 2022 Stipendium Hungaricum Excellence awardee, who studies Animal Husbandry Engineering at the University of Debrecen, and listen to his perspectives on the program and his experiences in Hungary.

The Award of Excellence is given to those Scholarship Holders who have achieved the most outstanding academic performance and contributed to the development of the Stipendium Hungaricum community. The award was presented by Miklós Lengyel, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Check out our interview with Roland from the Philippines.

What made you apply for the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship?

I learned about the scholarship from a colleague in the Philippines. While working in the Department of Agriculture, our office had several engagements with Hungary related to trade and various cooperation initiatives. Learning about the programme motivated me to be an active part of the bilateral relations of both Hungary and the Philippines by pursuing further studies as a scholar in the field of animal sciences in the heart of Europe. I wanted to learn about the technologies, policies, and advancements in animal production and health from this part of the world.

What is the best earning of studying in Hungary?

Studying in Hungary has opened to me a world of opportunities and possibilities. The experience of living and studying in a foreign country built my capabilities in both professional and personal aspects. More than education, Hungary ushered me into the wealth of knowledge, beauty, history, and culture of the European continent. The networks and relationships I formed with my fellow Filipinos, Hungarians, and other nationalities were truly invaluable and made my living here worthwhile.

What is your biggest professional achievement that is related to Stipendium Hungaricum?

With high regard to Hungarian academic institutions, I embarked on this post-graduate journey with an attitude of determination and excellence. I am grateful to have been mentored by eminent and highly distinguished professors in my field who pushed me into academic experiences I have never done before such as undertaking research works and joining scientific conferences. Winning 3rd place in the Scientific Student Conference in our faculty last year and the Stipendium Hungaricum Excellence Award was a testament to the excellence of the education and mentorship that I am receiving from the University of Debrecen and in Hungary as a whole.

What are your goals? How can Stipendium Hungaricum help you to achieve them?

As a civil servant in the Philippines, the scholarship is a privilege and a challenge at the same time. I hope to return to my country to serve and give back with the knowledge and experience I earned from Hungary and Europe if the situation permits. Undertaking further studies in my field is also an attractive option that I believe would prepare me for the challenges and responsibilities of my job. In this, I am confident the Stipendium Hungaricum can provide similar opportunities in the future.

What would you advise for those who are planning to apply for the scholarship?

To those who are planning to apply for the scholarship, I encourage you all to DREAM BIG. Believe in the power of your dreams, and in your abilities, and that Hungary is an excellent country that could help you make them possible. The education that Stipendium Hungaricum offers is an experience of valuable learning, connections, and fun. Hold on to the hope that someday, you can study as a scholar in Europe and grab your CHANCE TO EXCEL!
