For over a decade, the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship has been helping international students pursue higher education in Hungary. With thousands of applications submitted each year, its impact just continues to grow. The 2025/2026 application period has brought remarkable results again. Let’s see the numbers and key facts!

Number of applications

The most significant number that proves the scholarship’s increasing popularity right away is the number of applications. In 2025, a total of 80.000 applications were submitted, showing a huge, 20% increase compared to last year.

Top sending countries

The Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship is available on five continents and in more than 100 countries now.
This year, the most applications were received from Asia and Africa, and the top 5 sending countries were Pakistan, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and India.

The most popular fields of study

The 5 most popular fields of study were Economy, Engineering, IT, Health and Social sciences. Most students were interested in such programmes as Medicine, Computer Science, Business Administration and Management, Engineering and Public Health.

Number of study programs available

This year more than 800 programmes were available for students in English and other foreign languages, like German or French.

Number of Hungarian universities participating

As for now, 30 Hungarian higher education institutions are participating in the scholarship programme, from the capital and the countryside as well.
